Meet the Team: Tom Sullivan

At GMS, we’re proud to shine a spotlight on the people who help keep things running smoothly behind the scenes—and on the front lines. Today, we’re catching up with Tom Sullivan, one of our dedicated Water Hygiene Engineers, who’s been with us for the past eight months.

Tom joined GMS eight months ago and hit the ground running in his role as a Water Hygiene Engineer. Day-to-day, he’s involved in planned preventative maintenance (PPM), but his contributions don’t stop there. He’s also stepped into areas like plumbing remedial work, domestic risk assessments, clean and disinfection (C&D) tasks, and closed system sampling. His versatility and willingness to learn have made him a key member of the team in a short time.

According to Tom, the culture at GMS stands out above all. “The culture of the company that’s been created means everyone is willing to give you a helping hand, whether that’s passing on knowledge or helping you through a tough situation. Everyone is more than happy to help.” That sense of camaraderie and support is something he’s felt strongly since day one.

Tom credits many of his colleagues with having a positive influence on his journey so far, but gives a special shoutout to Aaron Lyons and Ste Spicer. “They’ll tell you themselves—I constantly pick their brains on a daily basis. Probably too much at times.” It’s clear that their patience, experience, and guidance have played a big part in helping Tom grow.

Outside of work, Tom’s biggest (and possibly most painful) commitment is to Manchester United. “Letting Man United ruin my weekend on a regular basis” might not count as an achievement—but it’s definitely a sign of loyalty!

We’re lucky to have Tom on the team, and we’re looking forward to seeing where his journey at GMS takes him next!

How Passing TMVs Drive Legionella and Biofilm Formation

Passing TMVs create the exact conditions Legionella bacteria thrive in. The combined effects include: Once temperature control is lost, biofilm rapidly develops on internal pipe surfaces. Biofilm acts as: As biofilm thickens, it further restricts flow, worsening stagnation and creating a self-reinforcing cycle that accelerates colonisation. In many investigations of persistent Legionella positives, passing TMVs… Read more »
