Meet the team – Owen Green (apprentice)

Position: Apprentice Plumber

Time at GMS: Just over a year

Owen says:

“I’m an apprentice plumbing technician at GMS Services.  This means I accompany the experienced plumbers on site, learning the trade with hands-on practice wherever work takes me.

“I spend one day a week at college studying for my BPEC Level 3 plumbing Diploma, but the rest of the time I’m here.

The life of a GMS apprentice

“Everyone at GMS has made me feel very welcome. The staff are friendly and happy to share their experience with me, so I feel I’m learning a lot, which is useful as I’m new to the industry.

“There’s a great atmosphere; everyone gets along, so that makes it a nice place to be. The work is really varied, so there’s never a dull week and I’m eager to learn new skills every day.

“The contracts we work on are all over the country, so I also enjoy seeing new places and there’s no chance of getting bored!  Places I’ve worked include South Wales, Nottingham, Barrow and Widnes in Cheshire. Not bad for a company based in Wigan!

“Another reason I like working for GMS Services is that we’re all supplied with top quality uniform, ppe and tools.

“Outside work, my main hobby is football. I play for Charnock Richard FC First team. We are currently challenging for promotion – sitting 3rd in our league. I also play for a Sunday team who have just reached the final for the Lancashire Cup.”

GMS Services celebrates 25 years in business this April.
