Meet the Team: Maddie Smout

At GMS, our people are at the heart of what we do—and today, we’re thrilled to introduce you to one of the newest members of our close-knit family, Maddie Smout! Having joined us six months ago, Maddie has quickly become an integral part of our daily operations and a friendly, reliable point of contact for both our engineers and clients.

Maddie’s role is all about keeping things running smoothly. She acts as a key liaison for our engineers, audits LRA (Legionella Risk Assessments) and service reports, assists with consolidation invoices, and ensures appointments are efficiently scheduled across sites. She’s also often the reassuring voice on the phone helping clients with their queries and needs.

In short: she’s a multitasking marvel and a real team player.

“The people that work here are all so welcoming and nice, and it’s just great because you feel valued working here – it really has that family-feeling environment.”

Maddie’s warmth and positivity are matched by the atmosphere she’s found at GMS, a place where camaraderie and support aren’t just values, but everyday experiences.

A Positive Influence

Maddie says she’s been lucky to be surrounded by many positive influences since day one. But if she had to single someone out?

“Alex trained me when I started and made me feel comfortable right away. We’ve built a great dynamic and I really enjoy working with her.”

Teamwork really does make the dream work!

When she’s not juggling tasks at GMS, Maddie enjoys staying active and connected:

  • Running
  • Spending time with family
  • Catching up with friends

Her balance between professional dedication and personal well-being makes her an inspiration both in and out of the office.

We’re so glad to have Maddie on the team—her enthusiasm, humour, and commitment make a real difference every day. Watch this space to meet more of the fantastic faces behind GMS!

How Passing TMVs Drive Legionella and Biofilm Formation

Passing TMVs create the exact conditions Legionella bacteria thrive in. The combined effects include: Once temperature control is lost, biofilm rapidly develops on internal pipe surfaces. Biofilm acts as: As biofilm thickens, it further restricts flow, worsening stagnation and creating a self-reinforcing cycle that accelerates colonisation. In many investigations of persistent Legionella positives, passing TMVs… Read more »
