Chlorine Dioxide Disinfections

GMS Services Ltd have been using Chlorine Dioxide to successfully disinfect and treat domestic hot and cold water systems for many years. Chlorine dioxide treatments are very effective in treating water systems contaminated with bacteria such as Legionella and other waterborne bacteria.

Advantages of Chlorine Dioxide over Chlorine

  • Unlike chlorine, chlorine dioxide does not react with organic materials to form trihalomethanes (THMs).
  • Non-reactive with ammonia-nitrogen and with most treatment chemicals (corrosion and scale inhibitors) present in cooling water systems.
  • Effective in the control of microbiological growths in industrial cooling waters under conditions unfavourable to chlorine.
  • It is particularly effective in systems having a high pH, ammonia-nitrogen contamination, persistent slime problems, or where the microbial contamination is aggravated by contamination with vegetable or mineral oils, phenols or other high chlorine-demand producing compounds.

Advantages & Benefits of Chlorination of Water with Chlorine Dioxide – Chlorogene

  • Highly potent, fast acting bactericide
  • Effective at concentrations as low as 0.1 ppm
  • Does not form toxic by-products
  • Effective over a wide pH range in both hard and soft water
  • Disinfect surfaces
  • Eliminates both planktonic and sessile bacteria
  • Destroy problematic biofilm
  • Effective as a disinfectant and oxidant

Application of Chlorine Dioxide

  • Water sterilisation
  • Disinfection
  • Environmental hygiene
  • Industrial and process water treatment activities

What Is BSRIA BG29 & BG50?

BG29 (Pre-Commission Cleaning of Pipework Systems) sets out best practice for cleaning commercial heating and cooling pipework before it is handed over. When new systems are installed, they contain: Mill scale from steel pipework Jointing compounds and flux residues Installation debris Construction dust and particulates If not properly removed, these contaminants: Block strainers and control… Read more »

Thermostatic Mixing Valves (TMVs): Understanding TMV2, TMV3 and Your Legal Responsibilities

Thermostatic Mixing Valves (TMVs) play a critical role in controlling water temperature and reducing the risk of scalding in both domestic and commercial buildings. In higher-risk environments such as healthcare, care homes and education settings, correct valve selection, installation and ongoing maintenance is not just best practice – it is a legal and moral responsibility…. How Passing TMVs Drive Legionella and Biofilm Formation

Passing TMVs create the exact conditions Legionella bacteria thrive in. The combined effects include: Once temperature control is lost, biofilm rapidly develops on internal pipe surfaces. Biofilm acts as: As biofilm thickens, it further restricts flow, worsening stagnation and creating a self-reinforcing cycle that accelerates colonisation. In many investigations of persistent Legionella positives, passing TMVs… Read more »
