Meet our two Colleagues of the Year!

Winner – North Team: Maddie Smout

It is with huge pleasure that we announce Maddie Smout as this year’s Colleague of the Year for the North team, an award that is entirely driven by colleague nominations, making it all the more meaningful.

The feedback received about Maddie was overwhelming, consistent, and incredibly heartfelt. Time and again, colleagues spoke about her willingness to help in any situation, even the “difficult” ones, whether that’s supporting teammates while they’re out on the road, explaining information clearly and patiently, or simply being there when someone needs help the most.

Maddie is recognised for going above and beyond, even during the busiest periods, always putting others first and offering support without hesitation. She has played a huge role in helping colleagues feel welcomed, supported, and confident, particularly new starters, and is often described as the go-to person for guidance, reassurance, and solutions.

Her professionalism was highlighted repeatedly, from her clear, informative communication with clients, to her accuracy, technical knowledge, and reliability. Colleagues shared how much they value her positive attitude, calm approach, and the trust they have in her to get things done properly and on time without ever having to be chased.

What truly stood out was how often Maddie was described as a pleasure to work with. Always smiling, always patient, always kind, and always willing to help, she consistently lifts team morale and sets an example for others. One colleague summed it up perfectly by saying that GMS simply “wouldn’t be the same without her.”

From everyone at GMS Services Ltd and especially from those who took the time to nominate her, this award is thoroughly deserved. Maddie is without doubt a valued asset to the business, and we are incredibly proud to recognise her with this year’s Colleague of the Year Award

WINNER MIDLANDS TEAM

We are proud to announce Philip Adlington as Colleague of the Year for the Midlands Team, following heartfelt and thoughtful nominations from his colleagues.

Despite his relatively short time with GMS, Phil has already made a remarkable impact, particularly within the Midlands branch. Colleagues consistently describe him as a beacon within the team, someone who leads by example through his professionalism, uplifting attitude, and genuine respect for everyone he works with.

What truly sets Phil apart is the personal touch he brings to his role. Whether it’s taking time to sit down for a cup of tea and a chat with residents who may be feeling lonely, or going out of his way to ensure their safety, comfort, and wellbeing, Phil demonstrates care and compassion in everything he does. These actions perfectly reflect the values of GMS and the standard we strive to uphold.

Phil’s drive to better himself, combined with his consistently positive approach to both tasks and people, has made him a go-to colleague for many across the Midlands team. His presence has had a noticeable and positive influence on those around him, and his contributions have not gone unnoticed.

This nomination is a testament to the difference Phil makes every day. He is a fantastic example of what it means to be part of GMS Services Ltd, and we are delighted to see his efforts recognised by his peers.
