Legionella Risk Assessment
GMS Services is a leading expert in legionella management and control with 25 years’ experience keeping water systems safe.
Understanding Your Responsibilities
Protect Yourself and Your Employees
All businesses in the UK must be aware of the risk of legionella to their employees and people using their buildings, and take appropriate action to mitigate these risks.
The Control of Legionella Bacteria in Water Systems Approved Code of Practice ACOP L8 Fourth Edition (ACOP L8) and guidance document HSG274 set out how duty holders – including employers, building owners, landlords and facilities managers – can meet their legal obligations under the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and COSHH.
A comprehensive Legionella Risk Assessment prepared by an expert risk assessor will ensure compliance, inform preventative action and protect responsible parties and their employees.
Trusted Expertise in Legionella Risk Management

What Happens During The Risk Assessment?
Our detailed risk assessments will include as a minimum:
- A written document including a FULL asset register.
- Schematics if existing drawings are not available or out of date.
- Photographic evidence of non-conformities
- Temperature testing at all hot and cold-water outlets
- Cold water tank and calorifier surveys with recommendations
- Shower and TMV inspections and temperature tests
- Appraisal of current control scheme and management procedures.
- Recommended control procedures for ongoing maintenance following risk assessment.
Water sampling and on-site legionella testing is optional and will be discussed prior to the site visit. Legionella sampling may be recommended during a risk assessment should a serious risk be identified. Any action would be agreed with the responsible person in advance.
