We are incredibly proud to announce that GMS Services Ltd has been named Small Business of the Year at the WBBA 2026 Awards.

This is a fantastic achievement for everyone at GMS and recognition of what has been an exceptional period of growth and development for our business.

In announcing GMS as the winner, the judges highlighted our significant growth over the last 12 months, while recognising that we have maintained a genuine passion for delivering excellent service to our clients.

Importantly, they also recognised that our growth has not come at the expense of our people or our wider community, highlighting our continued investment in staff development and our active involvement locally.

These comments mean a great deal to us because they reflect exactly what we have worked hard to achieve.

Growing without losing what makes GMS different

GMS has grown considerably in recent years, expanding our team, geographical coverage and client base while continuing to invest in the systems, training and infrastructure needed to support that growth.

But throughout this journey, we have been determined not to lose the values and personal approach on which the business was built.

Our aim has never simply been to become bigger. We want to become better.

That means providing our clients with knowledgeable, dependable people; investing in our employees and creating opportunities for them to progress; embracing new technology and innovation; and continually looking for ways to improve the service we provide.

Supporting clients with complete water compliance solutions

From our headquarters in Wigan and our expanding presence in the Midlands, GMS provides specialist water hygiene, Legionella compliance and commercial plumbing services to organisations across the UK.

Our services include Legionella risk assessments, water hygiene monitoring, microbiological sampling, TMV servicing, tank inspections and cleaning, water system disinfection, remedial plumbing and mechanical works, closed-system water treatment, commissioning and specialist water compliance support.

Having both specialist water hygiene expertise and our own mechanical and plumbing capability allows us to provide clients with support throughout the compliance journey – from identifying and assessing risk through to monitoring, investigation and completion of remedial works.

We are proud to support organisations across sectors including housing, healthcare, education, local authorities, commercial property and the wider public sector, helping them manage water safety and protect the people who use their buildings.

Our people are behind our success

Although this award carries the GMS name, it belongs to every member of the GMS team.

Growth brings opportunities, but it also brings challenges. Our people have responded brilliantly – adapting to change, welcoming new colleagues, supporting new contracts and maintaining the standards our clients expect from us.

We have continued to invest in training and development because we believe the knowledge, professionalism and commitment of our people are fundamental to the service we provide.

We are equally proud that, as the business has grown, we have continued to support our local community and retain the culture and values that have been part of GMS from the beginning.

An exciting future ahead

Winning WBBA 2026 Small Business of the Year is a fantastic milestone, but we see it as part of the journey rather than the destination.

There is a great deal more to come from GMS.

We will continue investing in our people, technology, systems and technical capability while looking for new ways to improve water compliance and deliver an even better service to our clients.

Most importantly, we will continue to grow without losing sight of the principles that got us here: technical expertise, great people, excellent customer service and a genuine commitment to doing things properly.
