History
GMS Services Limited was formed by Mr. Howard Parry. Previously to this Howard was employed by CIBA-Geigy as a Water Treatment Consultant involved in all aspects of product use and development for the prevention of Scale, Corrosion and Microbiological Growth within Boiler and Cooling Water Systems. He was responsible for several product introductions throughout the UK during his time at CIBA-Geigy.
Howard became involved as a consultant with several high profile Legionella outbreaks in the 1990s and worked for specialist Legionella Management Companies during this time.

1997, GMS Services is Founded
Howard Parry established GMS Services on 8 April 1997, operating from his home in Wigan.
1998–2000, The Early Years
Moved to our first commercial premises, welcomed our first employee, purchased our first vehicle and secured our early customers.
Early 2000s, First National Contract
Secured our first nationwide contract with Brora Brothers, delivering services across the UK.
2001, GMS Services Limited
On 4 July 2001, GMS officially became GMS Services Limited. Howard Parry designed our logo, still used today.
Early 2000s, Major Public Sector Breakthrough
Secured a significant contract with Lancashire County Council for Legionella Risk Assessments. Carl Ollerton joined the business.
Mid 2000s, Commercial Plumbing Division Established
Launched our Commercial Plumbing Division, bringing together plumbing, water hygiene, Legionella compliance and mechanical services.
Late 2000s, Continued Expansion
Secured major contracts with Warrington, Stockport, Bolton and Wakefield councils, and Golden Gates Housing Trust.
Late 2000s, Local Authority Growth
Expanded our local authority portfolio with West Lancashire Borough Council.
Early 2010s, Housing Sector Expansion
Regained the Lancashire County Council contract and secured a major housing contract with Salix Homes.
Mid 2010s, National Growth
Became an LCL Awards Approved Training Centre, began working with Co-op Food and Co-op Funeralcare nationwide, and grew beyond 20 employees.
Late 2010s, Rapid Expansion
Our fastest period of growth, securing contracts with Blackburn with Darwen, Knowsley, Midland Heart, healthcare providers and organisations across the UK.
Early 2020s, New Leadership
Gemma Ollerton was appointed Managing Director, leading the next phase of development while maintaining our family values.
Mid 2020s, A New Home
Relocated to our modern headquarters at Sovereign Business Park, Wigan, with larger office, warehouse and training facilities.
Mid 2020s, Midlands Expansion
Opened our Midlands office to better support customers across Central and Southern England, growing beyond 40 employees.
2026, National Recognition
Grown to around 50 employees and named finalists in the National Building & Construction Awards and the North West Family Business Awards.
